Yikes!

Okay, so I've been off doing my own thing and have been too lazy to blog :) I have lots to do today though so I promise I will post a full blog soon.

The short version of the last month:
  • Been struggling with healthy eating
  • Belle started soccer last week
  • Started my late start Saturdays at work
  • been super lazy around the house
  • Struggling with going to the gym every day
  • Finally started wearing my BodyBugg 23 hours a day as recommended by the program
  • Struggling with drinking enough water
I'm off to try and do some at home exercises, eat, then do some housework that I've been neglecting for weeks.

Tuesday Weigh-In

It's official! I've lost 20 pounds since I re-started my journey on March 1st. It's been a roller coaster for sure! Huge results with AdvoCare in March, then some weight gain while moving and then again with my shoulder injury, now back on track in the right direction! :D I'm so happy I lost 7 pounds this week! HUGE results!!!!!

I have a feeling I'm going to need to up my game though. I have been doing the same workout at the gym all week. I think I will finish out this week with the same workout and then switch it up next week to keep my body guessing and changing in positive ways.

I have my free training session with my personal trainer tonight at 7pm. My shoulder still isn't 100% so I think I am going to post-pone that for a week.

Anywho, short post today because I have some errands to run and I need to get going if I'm going to get the kids back here for a reasonable nap time.

So Excited!

Hehe! So I cheated on the scale yesterday and then again today :) Even though I've gained weight during this injury, going to the gym this week and straightening out my eating a little has totally turned it around! I'm not going to spoil the official weigh in for Tuesday but it's safe to say you can expect to see some positive results! I can't wait to find out how many calories I burn at work on a light day, I will upload the data from my BodyBugg tomorrow. :) I have been taking it easy at work and only working at the counter because of my arm.

Speaking of... I am happy to announce I have about 95% of my arm function back! Still taking it easy though. I'm done with my anti-inflammatory prescription and haven't taken any pain meds since Thursday, and I only took 1 that day! :)

Anyways, time to finish my breakfast and get my lunch ready for work.

It's Official!

I'm so excited! I am officially a member at 24 Hour Fitness again! I love my boyfriend. He gave me the green light as long as I could rearrange some of the things I pay for (mostly fun stuff, not necessities) out of my salary so the membership will not affect our ability to pay our necessary bills (aka, rent, electricity, car...). He said I can have the membership so long as I keep going. If I stop going, he's canceling my membership. Understandable.

I started my 7 day free pass Monday night and have gone every night thus far this week. I have really missed going to the gym and having ME time. I worry about going out by myself to some random place either super early in the morning or really late at night to go for a walk/run. I feel much safer working out with someplace to go. Plus, Aaron will always know where I'm supposed to be. After school starts back up I will be able to go to some of the classes (as long as I'm not working) during the day because I will just have Eli to worry about care for. One kid is so much more affordable to find care for than three!

There are a lot of changes coming in September. Aaron's hours will be changing (which mean mine will too) just for starters. Although, with both of the girls being in school, it will definitely open up my schedule to be able to work during the week. I need to figure out my work schedule and possibly getting a second job (somewhere open 24 hours). This is probably boring to you, but writing it down helps me sort out my ideas and writing this down also helps me remember my brainstorming ideas :) Even if my random thoughts make sense, lol.

I had my first workout as an official member tonight. I only made it an hour on the treadmill tonight, my legs started to get wobbly so I decided to call it good for the night. I killed my legs on the weight machines again though :) Plus, I did a little arm work. I haven't used my shoulder sling all day today, hadn't taken any advil, only took one pain pill after running a couple errands so I figured I could work my muscles a little bit. I was very gentle, and went very slow paying close attention to my injured shoulder so I could stop if it started hurting.

I see great things for this Tuesday's weigh in and it is still four days away :) Anyhow, it's late and I'm tired. Time for bed.

Tuesday Weigh-In

This week wasn't a weight loss week either. With my shoulder hurting so badly I haven't taken the time to prepare healthy meals and I haven't been able to exercise. Plus, I've been in so much pain that I ended up going to the ER Thursday night. Verdict? Tendonitis in my shoulder with a calcium deposit on it. I guess calcium deposits are your body's way of trying to fix inflammation. Well body, it didn't work! You only made the problem worse! So I was ordered to take it easy and given pain meds. Sunday rolled around and I was still in pain and almost out of meds so I went to the Urgent Care clinic. This time the Dr. told me to NOT have my arm in the sling the ER gave me all the time because my shoulder could freeze up. He gave me a new prescription for pain meds, a list of exercises to do for my shoulder (none of which really burn calories, just work on the shoulder muscles to help relax them), a prescription for a better anti-inflammatory (because advil wasn't helping), and ordered me to see an Osteopathic doctor :(

I had fully intended to make an appointment with the Dr the ER referred me to (the on-call dr) but yesterday and today my arm is actually feeling better! I still can't use it fully but it is soooooo much better than it was. And no, that isn't the Vicadin talking.

Last week I jumped the gun a little bit and went online to get a 7 day pass for 24 hour fitness because I got the green light from my hunny to get a membership if I could find one for $20 a month that is open during non-traditional business hours. The pass had to be redeemed by today or it expired so I decided last night I would go check out the gym. I had intended to walk on the treadmill for an hour and a half, but my shoulder had other plans. I almost made it to an hour, but I couldn't get the last 4 minutes in. My shoulder started to bug me and I didn't want to risk injuring it further so I stopped and called it good. I plan on going again every night this week to walk on the treadmill.

So... since I haven't been eating the best AND have pretty much been sedentary and planted on the couch since Friday, it isn't a surprise that I've gained weight since my last weigh in. Official poundage this week? 224.2

I also haven't been wearing my BodyBugg because I have to hold my arm out at a weird angle (well, weird for an injured shoulder) to get it on. I did wear it last night during my workout though so we'll see how accurate the calorie counter on the treadmill was. According to the treadmill I burned about 400 calories.

I also haven't been doing my 100 Days Challenge because I haven't been able to sit at the computer and type very much. I am surprised that my shoulder has lasted long enough for me to type this up. It probably helps that I'm laying on the couch with my laptop on my lap though :)

Okay, enough work for my shoulder. It's starting to complain.

Tuesday Weigh-In

Well, weigh-in day is here and this weekend hurt. Stupid pizza. When will I learn? Well, at least I'm only up ounces and not pounds! This week's number is an even 219. I just realized that I haven't been posting my weight in here even though I've been tracking it on SparkPeople.com. I will start doing that more regularly.

I got my 100 Days Weight Loss Challenge book today :) Mailman supposedly tried to deliver it yesterday (got a notice in my mailbox). I was home all day and never once heard anyone knock on the door. I am wondering if he rang the doorbell and then walked away when nobody answered. Our apartment has a doorbell ringer outside, yet it isn't hooked up to anything. Would be nice if we had one that worked :) Oh well, I can usually hear when someone knocks. Not like our other apartment when the only time I could hear the door was when we were in the front part of the apartment. Now, the only place I can't hear someone knocking is when I'm in the bathroom, our light switch also turns on the fan and it's uber loud.

Pizza?!

Well, I was doing really well following my 6 Week Body Makeover plan, and then someone brought in pizza. And it was just sitting there! Taunting me! I remembered I have been a little under on calories and fat lately so I though I would be okay to have a slice and I wouldn't be going over my target ranges on SparkPeople. I would have been. That is, until I came home to find that my well meaning boyfriend (who ordered my absolute favorite kind of pizza and side) had ordered pizza and breadsticks! I was 'good' though. I had a slice of taco pizza, a slice of pineapple and sausage, then just one of the texas toast style breadsticks. And of course, you HAVE to have soda with pizza (or at least I do anyways) so I had only half a can of Barq's Root Beer (the only kind I drink) that happened to be hiding in the bottom drawer of the fridge. I hid them on purpose, out of sight, out of mind! If they sit on the shelves in the fridge they taunt me until I drink them! So, today started out as a great nutrition day only to fail completely. I have yet to track all the pizza so I don't exactly know where my calories lay for the day. Alas, I am pooped so I'm going to bed and I will find out tomorrow.

Also, I am noticing that the activity part in this 100 Days Challenge is usually challenging you to do something that day, so I'm going to start journaling my entries in the mornings so I will have a chance to implement them that day.

On the flip side, I'm soooo soooo soooo happy that my hunny got his car running yesterday! Yippee! We have two vehicles again! Now I can be more active with the kids during the week instead of sitting at home with the computer chair tempting my butt to fuse with it! I will be spending some time in front of the computer tomorrow getting caught up on tracking my food and also setting up some things to go do with the kids this week and next week. I am part of a few groups on Meetup.com, so time to check out what they're up to! :) And time to get my fitness on! I foresee a looong walk in the kids and my very near future :) Most likely it will be in a park setting :D Now if only the rain will let up, it is summer after all. This summer has been pretty dreary. We've only had a few hot days up here.

Recipe: Garlic Chicken Stir Fry

Time to cook: 30-45 minutes

Serves 5
Nutrition Facts (located at end of post)

Ingredients:
  • 15 oz Chicken Breast
  • 3 small Yellow Bell Peppers, sliced
  • 3 small Red Bell Peppers, sliced
  • 1 cup Onion, diced/sliced
  • 30 Green Beans, fresh, cut to bite size pieces
  • 12 Brussel Sprouts, chopped
  • 1 cup Mushrooms, fresh, sliced
  • 1 cup Zucchini (or any summer squash), diced/sliced
  • 3 cups brown rice, cooked
  • 4 Tb Virgin Olive Oil
  • 4 oz Lemon Juice
  • 2 Tb Garlic Powder
  • 3 tp Garlic, minced
  • Dash of Chili Powder (to taste)
  • Dash of Pepper (to taste)
Directions:
  1. Pull out two frying pans and a sauce pan.
  2. Cook rice per directions on packaging to make 3 cups (or use some leftovers you have in the fridge) in sauce pan.
  3. Place 2 Tb Olive Oil and 2 oz Lemon Juice in each frying pan.
  4. Place chicken breasts into one frying pan.
  5. Cover chicken and cook on Medium-High heat. Keep an eye on the liquid level in the pan. Always have at least a 1/4 inch of liquid in the pan. If you need to, add water.
  6. Place the minced garlic in the second pan for the veggies.
  7. Prepare veggies.
  8. Place chopped Brussel Sprouts, chopped Green Beans, and sliced/diced onions into second frying pan and cook on Medium to Medium-High heat.
  9. Stir frequently to avoid burning. And watch your chicken.
  10. After they start to brown, toss some water into the pan. Just enough to keep it sizzling. You may want to turn the heat down to Medium-Low or Medium.
  11. Toss in the sliced bell peppers, sliced mushrooms, and diced/sliced zucchini.
  12. Sprinkle on Chili Powder and/or Pepper to taste.
  13. Keep an eye on the moisture level. Don't let the dish dry out, but don't have any standing water in the pan either. Add water as needed.
  14. Stir frequently to avoid burning. And watch your chicken.
  15. When mushrooms are just about finished, toss in the cooked rice. If you are using leftover rice from your refrigerator, toss it in when the mushrooms are about half cooked.
  16. Let cook for about 5 minutes.
  17. While the veggies and rice are cooking, take the chicken out of it's pan (it should be finished by now) and chop it up into smaller than bite size pieces.
  18. Voila! Enjoy!
To serve, you can either stir the chicken bits into the veggies and rice or toss on top.
CAUTION: Not a kid favorite, my kids hardly touched it, lol!

I discovered this yummy recipe by accident. I started out with the intention of making sauteed brussel sprouts and green beans (with onions) and decided it looked too bland. So I added some sliced bell peppers and discovered it looked more like a stir fry than sauteed veggies so I decided to add mushrooms, zucchini, and some leftover brown rice to finalize the dish. I was already making chicken to go with the veggies so when they were finished I decided I would chop up the chicken and throw it on top. I devoured mine! And my hunny really enjoyed it too. Although, the kids only took a few bites and decided they were finished with supper. If you try this dish, post a comment with feedback please!

LOOOOOOOOOOOng Weekend! Lol

Well, I have to admit. Even though I worked Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, I enjoyed my weekend! It was crazy busy on Saturday. Not as bad Sunday. Monday was UBER slow! Everyone was either busy enjoying their 4th of July festivities and/or thought we were closed.

After work Monday (I picked up some extra hours since my hunny had the day off, so I got to pick when I got off work), I headed straight home to have dinner and get the kids ready. A friend of mine invited us along to see the fireworks at Cascade Locks. Funny enough, we got there before she did! She thought I was going to be at least 30 minutes later than I was so she was planning on leaving a little later than originally planned. It was nice to just go and hang out, to be able to enjoy each other's company without any time constraints or expectations. When my friend got to the park she called me and we all went over to where her sister and her family had already set up 'camp'.

The kids had fun being able to run around and play with other kids. Belle even knew one of them from her old school. When it got dark I broke out the glow bracelets and all the kids had a renewed sense of fun to have. They had a variety of ideas ranging from drumsticks to swords. I even played along looping a pair over the top of my ears. I was very fashionable with my earrings. Until my son joined in and needed his bracelets, lol.

The fireworks started shortly after. They were AWESOME! This was Eli's first show of fireworks, he was completely mesmerized cuddling with his Daddy (my bf). Desi pretended to be afraid of the noise. Belle oohed and awed right along with me.

Afterwards I made a mental list of things to bring along with us next year. That list consisted of the following:
  1. Tarp to lay underneath the blanket, the grass was a bit soggy and I ended up with wet knees and a wet booty.
  2. Flashlight to find missing shoes, to make sure we've grabbed everything, and to find our way back through the park to the street we parked on.
  3. Bubbles, and lots of them. This park doesn't allow for private fireworks. Works for me! Much cheaper!
  4. Spark! I forgot my Spark at home :'( thus I was very tired driving home.
We finally walked through the front door a few minutes after midnight. Desi walked straight into her bedroom, sat on her bed to take her sweater and shoes off, then promptly rolled over and went to sleep. Eli didn't put up his normal fight to lay down, instead he laid down very willingly and went to sleep. Belle actually got her pajamas on and brushed her teeth before plopping into bed.

I was grateful to be able to sleep in a little the next morning.

Tuesday night I promised the kids we could do our fireworks since we weren't allowed to at the park. So as soon as it was nightfall we got our sweaters on and made our way out to our apartment parking lot. Thankfully I made sure to not get loud fireworks. Just really bright and pretty ones :) We alternated between Pop-Its, Sparklers, and some ground fireworks Aaron and I took turns lighting. This was also Eli's first experience with fireworks. He got the hang of the pop-its very fast and did quite well with them. I foresee him touching the flame on the end of a sparkler here in the next couple of years. I barely caught his hand when he tried to touch it this year. He got a kick out of waving the sparkler around. I did save a few sparklers and a box of pop-its for New Years though. :)

Early Wake-Up Day 2

Well, it's "End of Month" at my honey's work so he had to go in an hour early. In order for me to be back here with the kids before he left I would have had to get up at 4am. Not an option. 5am was early enough. So, I didn't get up early for a walk today. So I'm going to do the 10 minute kickboxing video and do some strength training on my arms today. Later, if it's nice enough (sad to say that considering it IS summer!), the kids and I got permission to spend bus fare and go to the park. We've been home-bound since Aaron's car broke down on the 20th. We're lucky we had a second vehicle though. Even if we ARE spending twice as much on gas now :(

On the flip side, the kids woke me up at 9am. Unlike Monday, I wasn't grumpy AND I wasn't sore/exhausted. I think this 5am thing may work out, as long as the kids let me work out on my 'off' days. I think I am going to change how I am doing this. My initial thought was to get up at 5am M-F to go for a walk or do my 5kyw. Since the 5kyw recommends you "follow these training workouts any three days of the week, ideally with a rest day or cross-training day between each workout" and one day during the week you do NO exercise. So I'm thinking Saturday will be my rest day since I get up at 5am to go to work and don't get home until after 8pm. Then Sunday, I think I will do some strength training in the morning before work. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday will be my 5kyw days, then Tuesday and Thursday will either be rest or cross-training days depending on how I feel. If I do too much too soon, I could end up with an injury, so it's better to allow for rest days if needed.

I was reading a few pages in my book ("The Biggest Loser Fitness Program") and I had an epiphany while reading an exert (sp?) that was talking about a "Goal Outfit". This epiphany knocked me upside my head and I thought to myself, "It isn't a matter of WANTING to eat the right kind of foods. It's a matter of HAVING to eat the right kinds of foods." That is IF I want to lose this fat suit. Because if I don't, this weight is not going to come off. So enough of me indulging in sugary and gooey foods. The time has come for me to take charge and eat foods that are going to help my body become healthy, not foods that are going to satisfy (sometimes) a taste craving. It's time to be creative and find healthy ways to satisfy those cravings.

Okay, enough chatting. Time to get off my butt and get moving. I need to eat breakfast and then I'm going to do my strength training and cardio video.

So Starts Insanity....

I've been meaning to start getting up at 5am to exercise and I've just been too lazy. This is a goal I've kept quiet, so nobody but me knew about it. Which made it that much easier to NOT get up at 5am. I had mentioned it in passing to my boyfriend a week or so ago that 'soon' I would start. I had the thought as I was falling asleep Monday night that I should get up Tuesday morning. That didn't happen. So last night I decided to tell my boyfriend, "You know how I mentioned I was going to get up before you go to work so I can go walking? Cuz waiting until evening just isn't happening. I'm either too exhausted, just wanna stay home with my family, or we've just eaten and that'll make me sick." "Well, I'm going to start tomorrow. I'm going to go up to Larabelle's school and start my 5k training again." At this he was concerned. He was concerned that the training program was not intended for someone of my skill level and weight. I assured him that my 5k Your Way (aka, 5kyw) training program was definitely for beginners. 

He conceded and I laid down to read my book before going to sleep. I am currently working my way through "The Biggest Loser Fitness Program". He asked what time I was getting up and was shocked when I told him 5:00am. He jokingly asked if I needed 'help' getting out of bed when the alarm went off. I asked him not to give me a hard time if I hit the snooze button once, but beyond that, yes.

*BUZZ! BUZZ! BUZZ! BUZZ!*

Not my favorite sound in the world. In fact, when I hear it in movies/shows it actually increases my heart rate. Odd how something so small can cause such stress.

I am not going to say I jumped easily out of bed and on out the door excited to start my exercise routine. On the contrary, it was a struggle NOT to hit the snooze button and lay back down. I didn't though (a huge accomplishment for me!). I logged into SP to double check how many minutes I am supposed to walk vs. how many minutes I am supposed to jog for my 5kyw training this week, got my exercise clothes on, grabbed my sweater with zipper pockets (can't have my keys and phone falling out), grabbed my GYMBOSS, grabbed my Brita water bottle, slipped on my shoes, and I was out the door.

On my way up to my daughters' school, the top of my right foot was not 100% so I was thinking to myself that when I get to the school I'm just going to walk around the track for 15-20 minutes instead of doing my training. After all, it is my first day back to exercising. When I got to the school though (20 minutes and 1/2 mile later), my foot felt fine. Good thing :) I took the opportunity to stretch my legs and lower back for a couple minutes to loosen the muscles a bit. Then I set my sweater down on the track, took a quick drink of water before setting it down too and turned on my GYMBOSS.

At this point I am supposed to walk for 4 minutes and jog for 1 minute, repeat 3 more times for a total workout of 20 minutes. Good thing too! I'm not sure at this point I could have made 2 minute stretches of jogging. The first jog was 'easy' and I recovered with 30 seconds to spare before my next jog. The second was a little harder, but I recovered faster. This time I had 1 1/2 minutes before my next jog. My third was a little easier than my second and I recovered even faster! I recovered in 1 1/2 minutes! Totally awesome! So I 2 1/2 minutes until my next jog which was comparable to my second.

My walk back took longer than my walk up to the school. I'm not sure if I was sub-consciously trying to cool my body down, or if I was just tired at this point. It took me 30 minutes to walk home. Total calorie burn? According to SP, I burned 419 calories. I can't wait until I can afford a BodyBugg! I am seriously curious how many calories I burn AFTER my workout before my metabolism levels out and I'm burning at a 'normal' rate again.

Would you have fizzled too?

I guess it was bound to happen. I fizzled and spent yesterday doing absolutely NOTHING. Let me tell you about my weekend and then see if you would have fizzled too....

Friday:
Put in my normal workout for Spring Bootcamp and did some light housework. As soon as Aaron got home I left to go meet up with Sarah from SparkPeople.com. The original plan was that I was going to walk with her while she did her walk/jog training (she is also working through the same 5k your way that I am, just a few weeks ahead of me). She'd claimed a fast walker could probably keep up with her because she jogged so slowly (she doesn't jog as slow as she thinks, lol). Well, I tried to jog with her and ended up walking. But by that point my shin splints were on fire. When her second jog came around I tried to walk fast enough to keep up, but it just wasn't working. So, she was kind enough to just walk with me. We ended up walking Fanno Creek Trail from Denney Rd all the way down past Scholl's Ferry Rd into Woodard City Park in Tigard and back. Total miles? 7.2! Took us about two hours to walk it.

Saturday: (temperature neared 90)
I got up at 5:00am to go to work. Got to work about 6:15am. Work was very busy for such a hot day. I guess people wanted to take advantage of no rain. I walked to Subway for lunch, ate a Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki with olives, American cheese, lettuce, extra tomatoes, cucumbers, and sweet onion sauce. Then walked (uphill) back to work. Proceeded to work my tail off until after we closed the store (7:15pm). On a positive note, I did drink about 100 ounces of water. Did I mention there is no air conditioning at work? Nor are there any fans. The only a/c I saw was when I was helping to check in the trucks and sat in the driver's seat checking the mileage and the gas (I work at UHaul). I subsequently crashed when I got home.

Sunday:
I got up at 7:00am to go to work. Got to work about 8:20am. We were pretty busy that day as well. Had quite a few walk in rentals (which usually take longer) and had to solve a few problems. BUT, I got to leave at noon so I could go celebrate Desirae's 5th birthday with my family. I left work and met up with my boyfriend and the kids at Fred Meyer to have some sandwiches for lunch and to pick up meat, fixins, and the cake for the barbecue birthday party we were having at my mom's house. By the time we got back home from the store to get dressed and get the kids ready (sunscreen and bathing suits) we were running late. I wanted to be to my mom's house no later than 2:30pm but we didn't get there until a few minutes before 3:00pm (the start time I'd set for the party) so I was very stressed. Then it was time to get the food cooking. My mom was awesome and decorated the patio so nicely! Desi had wanted a sort of hula theme so my mom put up decorations of palm trees, bamboo, and the like. Plus, my step sister had brought their kiddie pool and had already set it up. I added water balloons to the mix. We found out (while trying to clean up the kids) the dye in the frosting on Desirae's cupcakes stained pretty well. Then the kids had fun playing two rounds of Pin the Tail on the Donkey. Desirae won the first round and then my sister's second to youngest (two years old) won the second round. All in all, even though nothing went according to plan, Desirae had a blast. And that is really what is important, the kids had fun.

So, now that I gave you a rundown on my super busy weekend, being as out of shape as I am, would you have fizzled come Monday morning? It was all I could do yesterday to get Larabelle off to school on time in the morning. After my boyfriend got home yesterday I did end up taking the girls to the grocery store to get some much needed groceries. We'd run out of food money and we were on the bare minimums and out of a lot of things (including milk). Two birthday parties in May really killed our food budget.

Today I was back on track (sorta). I still didn't do much in the way of really paying attention to what I ate. And it seemed I have had an insatiable appetite today. I just can't seem to get full yet I feel stuffed. I did 30 minutes of cardio though. And my snack rocked it! I had a salad consisting of iceburg lettuce, yellow and orange bell peppers, tomatoes, 2 ounces tuna, 2 ounces shredded colby cheese, and 10 squirts of my ranch dressing spritzer.

Okay, I've been fighting a headache while trying to get this blog out so now I'm going to go lay down.

5k Your Way - Week 1 Day 2

Yesterday I did the Day 2 workout for my 5k Your Way. I was able to go out to the track at Belle's school (thanks to my wonderful boyfriend). The first jog was rough. I think I just went too fast though because the second jog was 'easy'. The third and fourth seemed to fly by! I felt I could go a few more rounds but I was worried my feet would disagree with me since I was wearing brand new shoes.

I picked up new tennis shoes yesterday because I needed comfy black shoes for work and I figured I'd get something that would double as exercise shoes! :D Boy am I glad I did! My feet are NOT sore today! WOOT! Now to find my exercise clothes so I'm not wearing a random tank top and sweats to go exercise. Nothing worse than worrying about bra straps falling down or draw strings not being tight enough when you're focusing on burning through a workout!

Also, I found a workout buddy on SparkPeople.com and we are going to start walking together Sunday evenings (thanks again to my awesome boyfriend)! :D Well, to be honest, she found me. :) Also, she's working through the same 5k program I am! Too perfect! She's a couple weeks ahead of me though. We're going to meet up tonight to see if I can keep up with her (just by walking fast). If I can, we're going to exercise Monday eves too. Have I mentioned I have an awesomely supportive boyfriend? I love him :)

Added bonus, thanks to all this exercising, I've been so alert the last couple of mornings it's awesome! Add some Spark to my morning and I'm so energized!!!! I am getting quite a bit done around the house lately (compared to what I've done the last few weeks). I also feel much happier. I've been really down and out the last several weeks. I'm so glad I made the decision to get back into this! A few more weeks of making this exercise thing a habit and then I will work on our pantry. :) Then we're gonna see BIG results!

I am going to try and hold out on weighing myself until I absolutely have to for my next upcoming challenge starting the 13th. Let's see if I can go ten days without weighing/measuring in. I cheated this morning and weighed myself (after having just weighed myself Wednesday) and I've gained some ounces. I am hoping it is just muscle. I did measure myself since I haven't measured since March. Even though I only gained about 3 pounds in the last month and some, I did gain several inches. So it looks like I lost muscle and gained fat. No bueno :(  BUT, we're changing that now! Baby steps and this will get done!

Okay, enough rambling on for now. Time to get some housework done and get my house back under control!

Here we gooooooo!!!!

So now that things have semi-settled around here it's time to get serious again. Enough moping around the house feeling sorry for myself. Time to get moving again!

I had originally planned on starting back up yesterday but chose to enjoy a rare day off with my family. My boyfriend usually works Monday through Friday and then I work Saturday and Sunday so it is rare these days for us to actually get to spend a day together with no commitments. It was a nice lazy day.

Today is a new day. Day 1 to my new journey to health and fitness. I've decided to take part in a new challenge presented by SparkPeople called the Spring into Shape Bootcamp Challenge. It is a four week challenge so that will last me through the end of June. I've also decided to join a challenge presented by the group 30 Somethings With 100+ Pounds to Lose called the Biggest Loser Challenge that starts June 13th and goes for ten weeks.

The workout video provided for Day 1 in the Bootcamp Challenge was awesome!!! A 10-minute cardio kickboxing video that, to be honest, kicked my butt! Great workout though! Perfect for a quick cardio blast when you are pressed for time, or if you just can't make it (physically) through the long 30-60 minute cardio workouts yet (like me). I think I will end up doing this one often. You can find it on YouTube also! Just search "SparkPeople" and a wealth of exercise videos come up!

Back in the Saddle

Well, a TON has happened since my last post. Long story short, we moved suddenly. I also now work weekends at U-Haul and no longer run a daycare.

Today we are going to celebrate Elijah's 2nd birthday. His birthday is really tomorrow but I will be working all day so there won't be time to celebrate tomorrow. I am sad that noone is coming. I'm not even sure my mom is coming. Nobody came for his first birthday either. Makes me want to stop inviting people since nobody comes anyways.

Much more to talk about but I have to get going. Larabelle has a playdate at 10am with one of her new friends at her new school :)

Creating New Habits

I am thrilled to say that I'm noticing it's becoming easier and more natural having these healthier foods in my everyday diet. It definitely helps that my kids love vegetables and my boyfriend is super supportive and helps to remind me of why I'm doing this.

I am definitely looking forward to the rest of this journey of discovery.

Tonight is a short post because it is late and I've had a very long day. I took my three kids, plus another 7 year old and 2 year old to OMSI today. We ran around and had a blast for three hours and consequently had no naps. I am impressed at how well my OmegaPlex and Clear Mood helped me with my crowd anxiety. It was extremely overly very very very (get the picture?) crowded today as it is Spring Break for all the local school districts yet I did not get anxious over it at all. Nor did I get stressed over all the rude kids that are let loose to run around like idiots and jerks because their parents are too lazy to be parents.

Confusing Calorie Burning

I didn't do well at tracking my food this past week and I honestly only exercised on Monday (although it was an amazing day of exercising!). I am excited to say that I still lost 2 pounds and 2 1/2 inches! I didn't eat very well either (compared to how well I was eating on the cleanse). So now that I've had a week off (thanks to my not so favorite visitor, I really dislike when she so rudely shows up unannounced), I'm back and on track! The sun decided to grace us this morning (even though it was quite chilly) so Eli and I went for a walk.

We went on the same walk as we did the other day but without Desi along with us (the girls are at their dad's house this weekend), I could make my own pace. What took Desi and I nearly an hour, took me 40 minutes. According to the calorie estimator on SparkPeople, I burned LESS calories in 40 minutes (even though I worked much harder and actually sweat this time) than I did walking for nearly an hour! How does that work? I don't understand.

Anyways, I'm off to put my son down for a nap and then I think I'll pull out my cello for a bit. Did you know that (according to SparkPeople) you can burn 343 calories by "Playing an Instrument" for an hour? I'm in! Burning calories AND releasing stress? WOOT! Sounds like my kinda exercise! :D

Splurge

Well, I had a huge success when I weighed in Friday morning. I'm not sure what went on emotionally with me the rest of the day. I was ecstatic and I wanted to scream it to the world. Then I just plummeted. I have a history of depression and I haven't taken my vitamin that helps to stabilize those hormones in a couple of days, I'm hoping that's what the problem is.

Yesterday was a very enjoyable day. Aaron decided we should go to the craft store and get some supplies to do a craft. I had already told Larabelle I would make pancakes that morning so we got the dishes under control and made pancakes together. We put dried blueberries into the batter and instead of using syrup we cooked some peaches and used them to top our pancakes. YUMMY! :)  We had some scrambled eggs as well.

After breakfast we headed out and got some much needed craft supplies and a couple extras for our special craft (have I mentioned lately that I have the best boyfriend ever?), our family is a huge huge huge fan of arts, crafts, and music. Well, really anything that requires creativity we are fans of! Which is why we don't miss our TV. When the kids really want to watch a movie we pop a DVD into the computer or find a movie on Netflix.

I digress. After the craft store, we went to Learning Palace because Michaels didn't have the craft book I was looking for nor did they have the color of construction paper we needed. Then, Aaron treated us to sandwiches at Quiznos! Yum :) It's been many years since I've been there. Now I remember exactly why, lol....it's hard to not choose something entirely wrong for you but oh so gooey and yummy, lol. I splurged and had a Turkey, Bacon, and cheese sandwich. I paid for it later though, my poor tummy is not used to eating garbage anymore and boy was it mad at me.

I'm back on track today though. I started my day out with a Yoplait Smoothie made with Vanilla Soy milk (instead of fat free cow's milk) and a couple scoops of AdvoCare's Muscle Gain to balance out all the carbs with some much needed protein. For lunch I made the kids some noodles with low fat cheddar, cream of mushroom soup, and tuna fish with a big helping of steamed veggies on the side. I had some of the mac'n'cheese and some veggies as well plus a hard boiled egg.

For snack I was really wanting a salad (I just got a bunch of super yummy veggies Friday) but I was feeling lazy and I didn't want to make it so who volunteers? Yep! My super awesome and totally amazing boyfriend (I love him). Iceburg lettuce, tomatoes, and sliced cucumbers! :D I've had two bowls for snack and I'm stuffed. Now for my multi-vitamin and Clear Mood* for my depression. Let's see if I can sneak in a few minutes of pilates before the younger kids wake up from nap.

Herbal Cleanse - Day 10

I'm so excited!!!!!!! I've cheated quite a bit on the scale this week (only once on measuring) and I can't wait to share my final results tomorrow after the official weigh/measure in! This herbal cleanse has sure been a blessing. I'm more determined than ever to 'go for the gold'.

I recently (as in yesterday) joined the Pound for Pound Challenge hosted by Biggest Loser. I'm a huge fan of the show! It is such an inspiration to me when I see how much success these people have! Most of them have more weight to lose than I do, so to see them hit their goals is so amazing! Sorry, I just realized how many exclamations I'm using, but I'm seriously that excited and pumped up about this stuff, lol. Anyways, the PfP Challenge is donating a pound of food ($0.11) to your local food bank of choice for every pound you pledge to lose! You can pledge up to 50 at this point because the deadline is May 31st. When the promotion started you could have pledged 100, but there isn't enough time now to lose 100 pounds in a healthy way and Biggest Loser is ALL about becoming healthy. They ran this promotion last season too so I'm hoping they will do it again next season so I can pledge again because I have about 100 pounds to lose. How awesome is that to be able to donate food (at no personal expense) while you're getting healthy! If you don't have any weight to lose, there is an option to 'maintain your weight' which is the equivalent of 5 pounds of food.

I've been doing okay on the eating, I'm really struggling at keeping my calorie count down while making sure to at least hit minimum of fat and protein. Carbs don't seem to be a problem. At this point the only thing I can think of is to eat more lettuce and more eggs. Lettuce as a no calorie filler so I feel fuller and eggs for my protein and fat (as long as I eat the yolk too). I just worry that I'm going to get burnt out on 'salad' and start grazing on other foods when I get hungry. Speaking of, I should start planning my next snack so I don't get tempted to graze when I get hungry. I need to make a trip to the produce market because I'm out of fresh veggies. Ooh, I'm thinking frozen veggie mix with a side of orange slices (fresh orange of course, not the candied kind). And an egg white? Doesn't sound like it tastes good together....

I could have a baked potato with tuna, egg white, broccoli, and fat free feta again. I've noticed I don't eat a whole lot of fruits because I'm afraid of all the carbs that go with them. I know fruits are essential, BUT they aren't exactly a great weight LOSS food. They're more of a weight maintenance food. I had to explain that concept last night to my oldest. We had burritos last night and she was confused why I wasn't having a tortilla and instead was having my 'burrito' in a bowl with lots of lettuce (ie, a salad). I told her that tortilla shells have a lot of carbohydrates which are great for maintaining a healthy weight but are not good for losing weight. I told her the carbohydrates in there are very important because they give her brain the energy it needs to think and learn. She noticed I wasn't having any colby cheese either. So we talked about the amount of calories and fat in the cheese that are, again, not good for weight loss, but good for maintaining weight. Then we went on to talk about the rest of the foods (burritos were buffet style) on the table. We talked about which foods had protein (beans, chicken, and cheese) and which had the most. We also talked about fiber (beans, lettuce, and tomatoes) and a couple other nutrients we were getting in that meal.

During dinner conversation I mentioned to Aaron (my bf) how much I really wanted to just grab one of the tortillas (which were sitting next to me so I could help the girls with them). He dared me, "Grab one." So I tentatively reached for one and he says to Belle (who is sitting next to me, he is sitting across from me), "Get her." Belle tickled my side and then he says to me, "That's how we help you."  Later, as I was pulling up an episode of Biggest Loser he says to me, "You really like that show don't you. Because it inspires you." I love him.

Anyways, TTFN! Kids will be up from nap soon and then Belle will be home from school so I need to get my strength training in for the day! :)

Woot! Goal met! On track for meeting another by the 14th!

I'm so excited! I cheated this morning with the scale again and I'm so excited! I'm not going to say how much weight I've lost just yet, but just know I'm going to knock your socks off when I tell you on the 11th! I'm on Day 6 of AdvoCare's 10 Day Herbal Cleanse and feeling so amazing! I feel so vibrant! What supplements am I taking?
  1. 10 Day Herbal Cleanse
  2. CorePlex after I eat lunch
  3. 1 OmegaPlex after lunch
  4. 1 Clear Mood (sorry, these are no longer available for purchase, but you can try a couple extra OmegaPlex and/or Amplify A.T.)
  5. Spark Energy Drink first thing in the morning
  6. Post-Workout Recovery Shake, only after I exercise and strength train
What exercises have I done? Well I did 15 solid minutes of strength training on Wednesday and Friday, plus 10 minutes of aerobic dancing on Friday.

I've also made a conscious effort to drink at least 8 cups of water each day (1 cup = 8 ounces). I haven't yet reached 8. I got 7 yesterday, but most days has been 5 or 6 which is a huge increase over what I typically drink. I will probably drink 8 today because I just finished cup # 7 and I'm about to refill my glass (which holds 16 ounces).

As far as eating, you can look for yourself and see on my SparkPeople nutrition tracker that I've gone over on calories every single day (although today I only went over by 2!!!!). Also, I haven't stayed within my 'fat loss' ranges on carbs, fat, or protein. Protein has been pretty steady though, I've really been focusing on making sure I get enough. AND my carbs aren't as high as they normally would have been, I've been focusing on cutting those down as well. I haven't paid attention to fat at all and only a smidge to calories. I'm starting to look more at calories now that I've got a good idea of where to get my protein in a healthy way. Also, I'm really trying to eat every two to three hours. I know if I wait longer than that, that I either eat wayyy too much or my blood sugar drops drastically and then I eat wayy too much trying to compensate and get my body back under control (I have hypoglycemia).

New Mission in Life!

Well, I've come up with a new mission in life :) One that is healthy for not only myself but my family as well. Here goes:
Mission in Life: Pursue Christ; love my family & friends; teach my children to be God fearing, caring, and respectful adults; make healthy lifestyle choices.
As for how I did yesterday with healthy choices? I did okay. I learned some more foods I need to eliminate from my menu (Rice a Roni = tons and tons of empty calories!). And I was pretty unmotivated to move out of this chair to do housework/exercise. I didn't sleep well at all Wednesday night so my body was pretty tired even though my mind was wide awake.

I weighed in today though! :) 3 pounds and 5 inches in 3 days! What have I been doing? Watching portion size, not eating garbage snacks, drinking more water, 10 minutes of strength training (I only did this yesterday), using AdvoCare's Herbal Cleanse as directed. Are these typical results? YES! The average lost during the 24 Day Challenge (the first 10 days is the cleanse) is 10 pounds AND 10 inches!

What have I been eating? Check out my SparkPeople food log and don't pay attention to the fitness tracker, I think it's bugged. I did track housework though because I worked harder than I normally do on Wednesday. The extent of my activity since Tuesday morning: light housework Tuesday, 'heavy' housework Wednesday, and 10 solid minutes of Strength Training on Wednesday.

Back on the Wagon!

Wow, has it really been 7 months since I last made a blog post? Well, here goes. My journal of my journey to that healthier me with the help of a good 'diet' (not dieting, but healthy eating), regular exercise, strength training, and nutritional supplements from AdvoCare. Plus support from my friends and family this time around.

I've gone through my cupboards (well, really I let them go bare and only bought good for you food) and most of the garbage snacking foods are gone. All I have left are puddings (fat free) and snack size bags of chips intended for my very active daughter's lunches.

So how exactly am I going to get healthy? Well, I've set a few goals that I'm working towards right now to establish some good habits that are going to help me.
  1. Drink at least 64 ounces of water each and every day.
  2. Eat eggs, tuna fish, chicken, nuts, and peanut butter for my proteins.
  3. Eat at least 2 servings each of fruits and vegetables every day (to be increased after I reach this goal).
  4. Do my personalized 18 minute workout (strength training) from the 6-week body makeover (which worked the last time around, I just didn't stick with it). 
  5. Get at least 10 minutes of aerobic exercise every day.
  6. Be consistent with my AdvoCare supplements.
  7. Track my food and exercise on www.SparkPeople.com. (view my profile)
  8. Weight and measure myself (at the same time of day wearing the same clothes) every Thursday.
Okay, so what started this new fire to finally get rid of this fat suit? I turned 30 on Monday. I have decided enough is enough. It's time for me to get serious. My kids need me and I want to be around to at least meet my great grandbabies. I started AdvoCare's 10 Day Herbal Cleanse on Tuesday (also the day I re-started the journey) and I am still going strong! I just know this time around I will finally break the bad health habits and the good health habits will stick. My kids deserve better than what I'm doing to myself. They deserve a mom who is actually involved in their life instead of always being depressed and wanting to be alone.

I probably won't post every day. I work from home now and tracking my nutrition and exercise on SparkPeople (referred to as SP from here on out) will take up enough of my computer time. As it is, I started this post about 7:00am this morning. We'll see when it actually gets posted, lol.

Okay, enough babbling on I guess. My plan for today: eat healthy, eat often, drink lots of water, do my strength training and aerobic exercise, play with my kids, do some housework, go to the store to pick up more fruits and veggies. Suggestions on sites with healthy recipes are openly welcomed! :D
